People, it's been quite a while since the Cupid Shuffle was released. Why, then, do you insist on doing whatever dance you feel like instead of the intended one? I witnessed this twice in the past week, first at kickball and then on Saturday. Listen to the lyrics; the instructions are right there!
First, my friend the DJ had a good observation tonight, when he said that he never thought he'd see the day when the President had more rhythm than the people he DJ'd for. We had an especially good evening of songs tonight, with not one, not two, but THREE Michael Jackson hits, the Humpty Dance, and Ghostbusters. Enough to make Toast proclaim her love for him even though she was 150 miles away and has never heard him DJ.
Second, someone found my blog through a search for "A pozole is a traditional Mexican stew made of hominy, pork and chilies."
Monster Jam was, as expected, completely awesome. Except for Screamin' Deamon, which tried its best to suck the life out of the event. Grave Digger came away with the win, although the highlight of the night was the Quad Wars final, in which a member of Team NY knocked one of Team DC off his vehicle. There was a fight! That was worth the price of admission alone.
Also, I'm listening to Music on Demand (Party Favorites!), and they're currently playing "Pour Some Sugar on Me." One of the facts they're running across the screen is, "Def Leppard appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2005."
Now, I will admit that I did not know that, but, really, is it important that I do? I guess to those behind Music on Demand it is, but I have my doubts that's it's one of the 20 or so most important things to know about Def Leppard.
SO! A few weeks ago, at the bar after kickball, I became BFFs with the DJ, thanks to my request of "In Your Room" by the Bangles (which, BTW, he downloaded on the spot).
Anyway, I was pleased with this turn of events, as he was always willing to play some Big Country or Kim Wilde. (After requesting Big Country from the DJ at KIT in the fall, and having him respond with, "Sure! That's rap, right?" I was a tad relieved to deal with this gentleman)
Tonight, however, we had a bit of a spat. You see, SOMEONE requested "Rockstar" by Nickelback. AND THIS WISH WAS GRANTED. All of a sudden, the pleasant music I had been enjoying turned into nails against a chalkboard. I immediately approached my buddy and we had the following exchange:
Me: "I thought we had an agreement?" Him: "What's that?" Me: "That you wouldn't play music that sucks." Him: "Don't be rude."
Friends, I thought this was the end. Fortunately, we made up by the end of the evening, and all is well. I am willing to forgive this lapse in judgment, as he does aim to please his public. Fight on, DJ Rizzo!
I would just like to post here what I wrote, verbatim, on Toast's wall earlier:
HAPPPPPPPPPY (almost) BIRTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHDAYYYYYYYYY!!!!! I wasn't going to post until tomorrow, but I'm sitting here listening to music on demand, and as the current song started and I heard the first few lines, I thought, "Good God, is this Party All the Time?!?" AND IT WAS. So I thought you'd enjoy that. Cause you like to party all the time, party all the time, party all the tiiiiimmmmmmmme.
If you'll allow me to indulge myself for a moment, the Latin Grammys are on tonight, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to post some songs from my favorite nominated artists from my favorite genre, el rock en espaƱol
Julieta Venegas, Ilusion
Molotov, Yofo
Babasonicos, Pijamas
And they're not nominated, but were last year, just released an album this week, and are my favorite band: Zoe, No Me Destruyas
FYI, 97.5 in Philadelphia has switched to their all-Christmas format! This means that it is now socially acceptable* for me to listen to holiday music with abandon. Pump up the Twisted Sister!
* I realize some of you believe it isn't acceptable until after Thanksgiving. I don't care.
It's only 1:30, but today has been marked by both great joy and tremendous horror.
For the good news, I filled up for $2.01 this morning in Newark! I feel like it's 2003 again, which makes me 5 years younger.
This feeling was short-lived, as I just took a look at the top songs in iTunes. Number 38 right now is a cover of "All Summer Long" by some group called The Rock Heroes, and off of their album.... A Salute to Kid Rock.
